Is your nonprofit making the most out of the Combined Federal Campaign?

Be sure to take important steps and note critical deadlines for getting the most out of your Combined Federal Campaign participation.

Combined Federal Campaign

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is one of the largest workplace giving campaigns in the world, reaching nearly 10 million potential donors, both active and retired federal and military employees and contractors. This includes everyone from the U.S. Army to the Postal Service to the Department of Education and more, stationed around the world.

The CFC was established in 1961 with CHC as a founding partner and has raised more than $8.6 billion in pledges to local, national, and international charities since its inception. Partnering with CHC: Creating Healthier Communities can help increase your capacity for participation in campaigns like CFC. CHC partners also receive CFC marketing resources and trend data to help make the most of the campaign season.

Make the most of your CFC fundraising campaign.

It’s never too early (or too late) to take action to make an impact with your CFC outreach.

  • Plan and schedule: Plan your CFC outreach and assign staff roles.

  • Identify and target: Know your audience and tell relevant impact stories.

  • Connect: Always include your CFC giving # and pledge link.

Reach active workers and retirees.

Since the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) runs September through January, communicate year-round with your donors, ramping up in August or September with a thank you. Most giving occurs in November, December and January. Be sure to promote during these months.

On average, retirees pledge $1,296 (more than the average CFC donor). Retiree giving accounted for $4,219,143 during the most recent CFC campaign — 6% of all CFC giving — and it’s growing every year. By reaching out to your existing donors you stand a greater chance of keeping donors engaged, including recent retirees and retirees who have supported your organization for many years through the CFC.
