U. Michael Currie Elected to CHC: Creating Healthier Communities’ National Board of Directors

Senior Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer at UnitedHealth Group joins CHC to advance equity and community health

“We’re incredibly proud to welcome Mike Currie to this committed, talented board of diverse leaders,” said Adam Rothschild, CHC board chair. “His significant health equity expertise will be instrumental in driving our mission forward, breaking down the barriers to good health and equity for all people.”

Currie currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer at UnitedHealth Group, leading health equity efforts and addressing identified disparities across UnitedHealth Group since June of 2010. He spent close to 30 years in population health management with roles in the public and private sectors related to disease prevention, wellness and health benefits. In the past, he’s served as Public Sector Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Region at UnitedHealthcare, Major Accounts Manager at CareFirst Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Executive Director for the Maryland State Council on Cancer Control/Maryland Cancer Registry with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

“I’m honored to join the CHC board,” said Currie. “I’ve dedicated my career to advancing public health, equity and wellbeing, and I look forward to working with the board and staff to continue creating healthier communities for all people.”

Currie has contributed to numerous articles and publications on health equity and health disparities and serves on various boards and committees including the Maryland Department of Health Advisory Committee on Minority Health, the American Telemedicine Association Advisory Board on Eliminating Health Disparities, the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network Health Equity Advisory Team, and the Howard Community College Educational Foundation Board. He enjoys volunteer and youth mentorship work through his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Currie completed his undergraduate studies at Morehouse College, where he was a conference All American tennis player. He received his Master of Public Health from George Washington University and his Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.
